Kurt Russell's Santa is the film's swaggering argument: what if Santa were cool? Leather coat, jailhouse blues performance — Russell really sings, backed by members of the E Street Band in the film's most famous scene — and zero patience for being called fat. Director Clay Kaytis came from animation, and the elves are CGI creations with a hand-made energy. It became one of Netflix's defining holiday hits, and the final-shot reveal of Mrs. Claus, played by Russell's real-life partner Goldie Hawn, set up the sequel and delighted everyone in on the casting.
