Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020)
A betrayed toymaker, his granddaughter, and the invention that can save them both.

Jeronicus Jangle's partner stole his designs and his joy; decades later his granddaughter Journey arrives with curiosity, courage, and a little wind-up robot named Buddy 3000. David E. Talbert's musical — Forest Whitaker, Madalen Mills, Keegan-Michael Key, songs by John Legend and others — earned 10 NAACP Image Award nominations and plays like an instant classic.
David E. Talbert wrote and directed this original Victorian musical, and its ambition is the headline: a Black-led Christmas fantasy with clockwork inventions, step-dance numbers, and stop-motion storybook sequences, built to stand next to the classics. Forest Whitaker plays toymaker Jeronicus Jangle as a man whose grief literally bankrupted his imagination; the songs, produced with John Legend among the writers, carry the wonder. Netflix positioned it as a flagship holiday film, and its young heroine Journey — Jeronicus's granddaughter, armed with math and faith — gives the season a hero of a new kind.
