The Shop Around the Corner (1940)
Two shop clerks who can't stand each other are secretly pen pals in love.
In a Budapest leather-goods shop, Alfred and Klara bicker daily — while each is falling, by letter, for an anonymous correspondent neither knows is the other. Ernst Lubitsch's perfect romantic comedy was later remade as You've Got Mail. Warm, witty, and quietly heartbreaking.
