The Perfect Holiday (2007)
A little girl asks Santa for one thing: a man who will pay her mother a compliment.
Nancy Taylor is a divorced mother of three with no time for herself, let alone romance. When her youngest daughter Emily overhears her wish for nothing more than a compliment from a nice man, she takes it straight to the department-store Santa — who happens to be Benjamin Armstrong, a struggling songwriter working the grotto between gigs. Benjamin delivers the compliment, then has to court Nancy without revealing how they met, while her ex-husband, flamboyant rapper J-Jizzy, is busy recording one of Benjamin's own songs.
Queen Latifah produced the film and floats through it as its narrator, with Terrence Howard as her devilish counterweight. The comedy runs on the supporting bench: Charlie Murphy as J-Jizzy, Katt Williams as his long-suffering manager Delicious, and Faizon Love as Benjamin's friend Jamal. It is a gentle, old-fashioned meet-cute dressed in 2007 hip-hop holiday sparkle — and a rare big-screen Black Christmas romance of its decade.
