A shy New Orleans cookware saleswoman (Queen Latifah) learns she has a terminal condition, cashes out everything, and flies to a grand European hotel to live — and eat — gloriously, under chef Gérard Depardieu's wing. The diagnosis, of course, deserves a second look. Latifah's warmth makes the fantasy feel like a philosophy.

Queen Latifah plays Georgia Byrd, a shy New Orleans cook who keeps a scrapbook 'Book of Possibilities' instead of a life — until a misdiagnosis gives her three weeks and a reason to spend it all. The remake of a 1950 Alec Guinness film sends her to the Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary, where Gérard Depardieu's chef recognizes a fellow believer in butter. Latifah's glow-up isn't the makeover; it's watching a careful woman order everything on the menu. A post-Katrina New Orleans production, it carries home and loss inside the fairy tale.
