The Grinch (2018)
Benedict Cumberbatch voices the Grinch in Illumination's bright, musical retelling of the Seuss classic.

High above Whoville, the Grinch plots to steal Christmas from the Whos — whose celebration gets bigger and louder every year. Posing as Santa with his faithful dog Max, he swipes every gift and decoration in town, until a small girl named Cindy-Lou Who shows him what the day was actually made of.
Illumination gives the Grinch a backstory — a lonely orphanage childhood behind the grump — and Benedict Cumberbatch plays him less as a monster than as a neighbor with noise sensitivity and a grudge. Pharrell Williams narrates in Seuss's rhyming spirit, Angela Lansbury lends the Mayor her grandeur, and the animation turns Whoville into a candy-colored machine of joy. For families who find the 1966 special too short and the 2000 version too much, this is the middle path: faithful, funny, and genuinely sweet.
