Gifts for Christmas Horror Fans: Black Christmas and Beyond

For the person whose December runs on slashers, killer Santas, and one very gremlin-filled Christmas Eve — gifts with teeth.

Fast answer: The best gifts for a Christmas horror fan are collector editions: the original Black Christmas (1974) in its restored release, Krampus, Violent Night in 4K, and Gremlins — plus a set of horror Christmas ornaments for the tree. This fan is a collector; give them editions and objects, not novelties.

Christmas horror is a real tradition, not a joke genre. The original Black Christmas essentially invented the slasher film in 1974, and every December the faithful rewatch the dark shelf: the killer Santas, the folklore monsters, the home-invasion holidays. Buy for that shelf and you buy correctly.

Quick facts

• The cornerstone: Black Christmas (1974), directed by Bob Clark — who later made A Christmas Story
• Modern essentials: Krampus for folklore horror, Violent Night for action-horror comedy
• Gateway gift: Gremlins — horror-adjacent, crowd-safe, endlessly rewatchable
• Not for kids: this shelf is adults-only; check ratings before a family screening

The collector editions that matter

Start with Black Christmas. The boutique collector editions restore Clark's film properly and load it with commentaries and history — for a horror fan this is the crown jewel of the dark shelf. Pair it with Krampus, Michael Dougherty's folklore nightmare, which has become the modern December staple.

Violent Night gives them the newest tradition: Santa as an action hero, bloody and funny in equal measure. And Gremlins is the bridge gift — the one you can give a horror fan in front of the whole family. Our catalog profiles the whole dark shelf, including Silent Night, Deadly Night, in the horror and Black Christmas hub.

Objects for a darker tree

Horror fans decorate too — their tree just has better monsters. A horror ornament set, a Krampus figure, or a strand of suitably sinister lights gives their December a signature. Wrap the disc in black paper with a red bow and the presentation alone will be retold.

One caution: know your fan's line. Some love the slashers; some stop at spooky. Gremlins and Krampus are the safe side of the shelf; Black Christmas and Silent Night, Deadly Night are for the committed.
