The Holiday (2006)
Two heartbroken women swap homes for Christmas — Los Angeles for a Surrey cottage.

Amanda trades her LA mansion for Iris's snow-dusted cottage; each finds the other's world, a brother, a composer, and a 90-year-old screenwriter who steals the film. Nancy Meyers' houses are half the romance. It has become the comfort-watch of the season.
Nancy Meyers built the fantasy twice over: Kate Winslet's Cotswolds cottage and Cameron Diaz's Los Angeles mansion, swapped for one Christmas. Jack Black, cast against type as a gentle film composer, gives the movie its softest scenes, and Eli Wallach — then in his nineties — nearly walks off with it as a Golden Age screenwriter teaching Winslet's Iris about 'meet-cutes' and gumption. The interiors alone built a design fandom that still recreates them every December. It is the season's defining comfort watch for the house-swap daydream in everyone.
