The Family Stone (2005)
She's meeting his family for Christmas. It goes badly. Then it goes somewhere real.

Meredith, uptight and desperate to impress, spends Christmas with the sprawling Stone family, who close ranks against her — while her sister, his brother, deaf son Thad, and matriarch Sybil move the story toward something honest and sad and good. A holiday film with a real heartbeat under the comedy.
Thomas Bezucha's ensemble dramedy divides audiences like no other Christmas film — people find it either unbearably awkward or the most honest movie ever made about going home. Diane Keaton's matriarch runs a bohemian house where Sarah Jessica Parker's uptight Meredith (a Golden Globe-nominated performance) detonates every ritual, from charades to the famous strata. The cast is stacked wall to wall — Dermot Mulroney, Rachel McAdams, Claire Danes, Luke Wilson — and the film keeps its saddest card facedown until the last scene, when a single gift recontextualizes the whole holiday.
