Danny Glover anchors this one as a widowed patriarch asking his grown children for five peaceful days in the house where they grew up, in the first Christmas since their mother died — and David E. Talbert, who also made Jingle Jangle, plays the request for every laugh and ache it holds. Mo'Nique walks away with the film as Aunt May, a backup-singer scene-stealer with a pistol in her purse and the movie's whole philosophy in her mouth. It is broad, warm, and quietly honest about grief at the holidays.
