Melissa McCarthy

Black Christmas Movies · White Actors

With her hilarious antics and irresistible warmth, Melissa McCarthy has conquered comedy on the screen and behind the scenes as Hollywood’s most bankable female star. Raised on a farm in Illinois, McCarthy always dreamed of performing, but her larger-than-life personality seemed destined for a behind-the-scenes role. After struggling to find acting work after college, she shifted to the other side of the camera, studying comedy writing and improv.

McCarthy’s wit and charm as an improv performer captured the attention of comedic powerhouses, and her career soon exploded on screens large and small. Her scene-stealing supporting role in Bridesmaids rocketed McCarthy to stardom and won her first of two Emmy awards. She parlayed success into headlining blockbuster comedies like The Heat, Tammy, Spy, and Ghostbusters while garnering critical acclaim for nuanced roles in Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Nine Perfect Strangers.

Off-screen, McCarthy has championed diverse voices by launching her own production company and creative haven for marginalized comedy talent. At 52, Melissa McCarthy reigns supreme as comedy’s most game and joyous MVP, and her Midas touch for converting scripts into box office gold remains unrivaled.
