Genie Christmas Movie

A down-on-his-luck man accidentally summons a genie who has been trapped for 2000 years, upending both of their lives in unexpected ways. Starring Melissa Mccarthy, Paapa Essiedu, Denée Benton, Orease Bowers.

“Genie” is a whimsical Christmas movie that brings a sprinkle of magic to the festive season. Directed by the skilled Sam Boyd, the film transforms a holiday fairytale into a heartwarming cinematic experience.

At the core of the movie’s charm is the script by Richard Curtis, an Oscar®-nominated screenwriter known for his ability to mix humor with deep emotional undercurrents. The story of “Genie” revolves around Bernard, played by the talented Paapa Essiedu, whose life is a series of unfortunate events until he rubs an old jewelry box and releases the genie Flora, portrayed by the ever-versatile Melissa McCarthy. This isn’t your typical genie tale—Flora is as flawed and uncertain as the next person, which only adds to the comedy and the heart.

Cinematography by John Guleserian captures the magical and mundane moments with equal flair, making each scene a visual delight. Heather Persons’ sharp editing ensures that the film’s pacing keeps viewers engaged, seamlessly transitioning from one scene to the next.

The film’s atmosphere, set by Alex DiGerlando’s production design and further detailed by the supervising art director, Nithya Shrinivasan, creates a world that feels just a touch removed from reality, perfect for a story about genies and second chances. The costumes, designed by Leah Katznelson, contribute to the character’s personalities, from Bernard’s disheveled suits to Flora’s otherworldly attire.

Adriana Andaluz and Evelyne Noraz from the makeup department have the crucial job of transforming actors into their characters, ensuring that Melissa McCarthy’s genie appearance is both enchanting and relatable.

The production is brought to life under the leadership of producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Caroline Jaczko, and Riva Marker, whose collective efforts harmonize to tell a story that’s as much about fixing one’s life as it is about finding joy in the unexpected.

The sound department, led by Dillon Bennett, creates an aural landscape that’s as compelling as the visual one, making sure every whisper of magic is heard. Meanwhile, the special effects team, with Caleb P. Johnson at the helm as the special effects foreman, works wonders to make the genie’s powers come alive without overshadowing the story’s humanity.

Visual effects, crucial in a film with fantastical elements, are overseen by visual effects supervisors Julian Parry and Neil Roche, ensuring that the magic feels as integral to the story as any real-world element.

Stunt coordinator Nitasha Bhambree ensures that all physical actions, no matter how infused with genie powers, maintain a sense of realism and safety for the cast and crew. The camera and electrical departments, with experts like aerial cinematographer Patrick Longman and gaffer Jennifer Scarlata, work tirelessly to capture the film’s essence from every angle, providing the groundwork for the story’s visual narrative.

In the wardrobe department, textures and fabrics come alive under the supervision of Anne Newton-Harding, helping to tell the characters’ stories through their clothing choices.

The film is a collaborative creation, with each member of the crew from art to editing, from stunts to sound, adding their unique touch to the holiday story. “Genie” is not just a tale of wishes and magic; it’s a labor of love by a team dedicated to bringing a touch of holiday spirit and a whole lot of heart to the silver screen.
